After putting the number of comments through Random.org, the winner is...

Lady Soul

via
Congrats Lady Soul, you should have already received an email from me asking for your shipping address :).

And thank you so much to everyone who entered! I love giving away books to good homes and being able to learn more about the people who read this blog while I do it is the BEST!

P.S. - As a quick housekeeping update, please make sure to read the giveaway rules carefully. I had to disqualify some entries because they didn't include email addresses and I wanted to be fair to everyone. Thank you!

Christmas in July! (Part II) **CLOSED**

Merry Christmas!!

*Yes, I know it's only July.
**Yes, I know it's the last day of July. Bear with me.

I've been a little lazy/stressed/distracted this month so I haven't gotten this giveaway up before now. But since it includes one hardcover AND two paperbacks, maybe you can forgive me?

Nora Roberts is one of my absolute favorite authors because somehow, for a reason I cannot for the life of me explain, her books don't get old. Or feel repetitive. Each one is unique and while I may not love them all equally I usually end up enjoying the time I spend with them anyway.

Victoria Dahl is a new-ish to me author and though I liked her books I think they might have a better home with someone who really loves historicals.

The titles up for grabs this time around:

The Gift by Nora Roberts

HOME FOR CHRISTMAS
After years of world travel, prizewinning reporter Jason Law returned home to New Hampshire. He had carried the memories of Faith Kirkpatrick, the girl he left behind, for ten years --- now he was determined to win back her love. But she was a woman with responsibilities, and he was nothing but a wandering nomad. All they could have was this one Christmas together. Could Faith summon the courage to give Jason a once-in-a-lifetime holiday gift?

ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS
Identical twin boys Zeke and Zach wanted only one gift from Santa: a new mom! And when they first meet their music teacher at school, they could hardly believe their luck --- Miss Davis was a mom made-to-order. But convincing their dad was a lot harder than they thought. Mac Taylor wasn't willing to risk his heart, but when Nell brought love and laughter into all their lives, his heart began to thaw like a spring snow. Will the boys get their Christmas present after all?

To Tempt a Scotsman by Victoria Dahl

SHE HAS NOTHING LEFT TO LOSE—
After finding herself at the center of a very public scandal that left one man dead and another on the run, Lady Alexandra Huntington has exiled herself to her brother's estate and is content to manage his affairs. But the arrival of darkly handsome Collin Blackburn awakens her curiosity and her desire—and the advantage of being a fallen woman is that she can be ruined only once.

EXCEPT HER HEART.
After a promise sworn to his father, Collin Blackburn is compelled to seek the aid of the woman who brought about his brother's death in a senseless duel. Yet Lady Alexandra is not the shameless femme fatale he expected. In fact, Collin suspects she is guilty of nothing more than a hunger to experience passion, and the brawny Scot is certainly equipped to oblige. But the quick-witted, keenly sensual Alexandra has a few lessons of her own to impart—on life, love, and the delicious joys of succumbing to temptation.

A Rake's Guide to Pleasure by Victoria Dahl

TRUE PLEASURE.
Raised by a titled, yet degenerate, father, Emma Jensen never imagined the gambling lessons she learned as a child would one day serve her well. When she finds herself in dire need of money, she concocts the alias of Dowager Lady Denmore and sets off to bewitch London's noblemen by engaging them in games of chance. The fact that respectable ladies do not gamble does not intimidate her in the least. But the darkly handsome Duke of Somerhart does-for he's awakened a deep, sensual hunger in her.

IS ALWAYS WORTH THE GAMBLE.
The dashing Duke of Somerhart has the notorious reputation of being one of London's most incurable rogues. When he meets the alluring Lady Denmore, he is immediately intrigued. Her recklessness and innocence intertwined titillates him as no other woman ever has. But what secret is the lovely Lady Denmore hiding? He's determined to find out. But first he must seduce her until she surrenders completely to his most wicked desires...

A little present from NYC! *giveaway*

While I was in NY this time around I had the pleasure of visiting The Strand - a most epic representation of Indie bookstore-ness, and quite impressive if I do say so myself.

Would it make sense to you if I said I felt a little intimidated? There was just SO MUCH, everywhere, that I couldn't imagine seeing every corner of it. At least not in one visit.

What I did get my hands on pretty quickly was a rare-ish copy of High Energy by Dara Joy! Her books are out of print and while you can get an e-copy from her website, for me there's just nothing like having the book in your hands. And since I already own it I couldn't resist picking up a copy for one lucky reader! Joy does a wonderful job at writing lighthearted, feel good romances with interesting characters and hilarious stories. I defintiely consider them my comfort reads and I can't wait to pass that on to someone new.

Physics. Zanita Masterson knew nothing about the subject, and cared little to learn--until a reporting job led her to one Tyberius Augustus Evans. The rogue scientist was six feet of piercing blue eyes, rock-hard muscles and maverick ideas, and the notion that he was seriously interested in her seemed insane. But a night of monster movies, cookie-dough ice cream and wild love was almost enough to convince Zanita that the passion-minded professor was determined to woo her--with his own masterful equation for sizzling
ecstasy and ...HIGH ENERGY

But wait, what's this? Yesterday at the Arlington Central Library Book Sale I found another Dara Joy book. For even CHEAPER! Huzzah! Again I already own Mine to Take, but why not share?

He was full-blooded and untamable. Sensual and sinuous. Erotically magnetic. A uniquely beautiful creature who could make himself irresistible to women. And he was feral at heart. With his glittering green and gold eyes, silken hair, and purring voice, the stunning captive chained to the wall was exactly what Jenise needed. And he was hers to take...Or so she believed. But she had never heard how dangerous it was to lie down with the cat.

That means TWO lucky people can win books from RAtChaos! One contemporary romance, one paranormal romance, just leave a comment below telling me which one you'd like  Giveaway's running for two weeks, until 12:01am on April 30th, and don't forget to use the Rafflecopter thing-y so I can contact you if you win!

**EDIT**: Apparently people hate the Rafflecopter thing so just leave a comment with an email address I can contact you at. Thanks!

Happy (belated) Valentine's Day and *GIVEAWAY* !

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

Yeah, I know, I'm late, but I'm only going to accept about 30% of the blame for that. 70% I'm going to vehemently blame on my office for being inordinately crazy on a beautiful Monday. I mean people, it's 60 FREAKING DEGREES OUTSIDE. Go enjoy it and get off my back.

But I digress.

In celebration of this random holiday, I've decided to hold a quick giveaway with a book that has all the themes central to the day: Vision in White by Nora Roberts (the Bride Quartet).

~~
Childhood friends Mackensie, Parker, Laurel and Emmeline have formed a very successful wedding planning business together but, despite helping thousands of happy couples to organize the biggest day of their lives, all four women are unlucky in love. Photographer Mackensie Elliott has suffered a tough childhood and has a bad relationship with her mother, which makes her wary of commitment. But when she meets Carter Macguire, she can't stop herself falling for him, although his ex girlfriend is prepared to play dirty to keep him. Mackensie soon realizes she has to put her past demons to rest in order to find lasting love...

To enter the giveaway just leave a comment below with your email address - that's it!

Giveaway will run through Monday February 21st, 2011.

Time for a non-denominational all inclusive festive season GIVEAWAY!

I have to admit that I'm not ready for the holidays. I have one pre-organized light thing set up in my house that I bought from CVS last year and that's it. The only reason there's anything wrapped is because I'm doing a secret Santa with my coworkers.

Sigh.

Still, it occurs to me that I'm probably not the only who's feeling a little lazy! There's always a few of us, even if we hide away in the shadows, waiting to hit the malls or that 'purchase all' button online at the very last moment. I'm happy to say that with the help of CSN it's time for a:

FESTIVE SEASON GIVEAWAY!

CSN is an online retailer and they sell a ridiculously great number of things: luggage stores, bookshelves, lamps, chairs, BEDS - you name it and I feel that somewhere in their system they've got it. I did a post about them previously (you can find it here) and I love the high level of communication you get from their representatives. It's always such a relief, especially when things are stressful.

This giveaway is for a $65 certificate to CSN Stores. Woot! To enter all you have do is comment below with a little 'Enter Me' and your email address so I can let them know where to send the code.

But what is that I hear? You want additional ways to enter? Well since you asked....

+1 for subscribers of this blog
+1 for Facebook fans
+1 for subscribers of my personal blog (Bittersweet Musings)

Each '+1' means I'll add your name an extra time to the Random.org mix, giving you more chances to win! Just make sure to tell me which ones you qualify for in your comment.

Giveaway runs through 11:59pm EST on Wednesday, December 22nd. I'll announce the winner next Thursday morning!

Good luck!

Yay! A Book Giveaway! *CLOSED*

I would love to be able to say that this giveaway is honor of something special, but really it's just in honor of me wanting to give some books away! Everything I'm offering up were used book picks I got at a library book sale a couple months ago. That means that they're not in pristine condition and unfortunately not signed by the author - BUT - they're both first books in series that are well read and loved by me and many of my friends.

The way this is going to work is that they're going to be two giveaways happening simultaneously - one on RAtChaos's
Facebook page and one here on the blog. The one hosted here will be a ROMANCE giveaway and the one on Facebook will be a FANTASY giveaway.

ROMANCE GIVEAWAY:

Causing Havoc
by Lori Foster

Sexy, sculpted extreme fighter Dean "Havoc" Connor has knee-melting good looks-and thick skin. But not from his brutal sport's enclosed rings. Orphaned and torn from his sisters as a boy, he has no family. That is, until he gets a letter revealing how much the once-little girls want him back in Harmony, Kentucky.

To stop his sister from marrying a man as sleazy as he is wealthy, Dean finds himself teaming up with her pretty-but-smart-mouthed friend Eve — who's heard of "Havoc's" reputation and doesn't need some hunk trampling on her heart. Now all Dean has to do is protect his sisters, win Eve over, and expose a devious criminal.

And he thought winning the heavyweight cage fighting belt was hard.

FANTASY GIVEAWAY:

Winds of Fate
by Mercedes Lackey
***More info for the fantasy giveaway can be found on RAtChaos's Facebook page!***

RULES FOR THE GIVEAWAY:

1) You can only enter ONE of the giveaways. Put your hat in the ring for the romance book OR the fantasy book - not both.
2) You must be a subscriber and/or fan (subscriber of the blog to enter for the romance book, fan of the Facebook page if you want the fantasy book)

3) You must be 18 years or older and live in the United States

4) To enter for a chance to win Causing Havoc please leave a comment on this post with your email address
5) Winners will be chosen using Random.org

6) To be eligible you must leave a comment by
11:59pm on Sunday, June 13th.

BUT WAIT - THERE'S MORE!
If with your comment you leave me the link to a post on your own blog where you mention this giveaway, I'll enter you to win an EXTRA SPECIAL READING DOO-DAD! That's right: a reading doo-dad!

I found this little thing-a-ma-bob in a mall in NC. It has little legs in the back that let it stand up on it's own on a bookshelf or table, but it could also be used as wall art just by hanging it with a nail. It's cute, random, and reading themed, so what's not to love?!?!

This giveaway will be open to people on Facebook and in the blogging world, so if you're not in the mood for a romance book don't worry, you still have a chance!

***Winners of the doo-dad will also be picked by Random.org***

The Untamed Bride - A Give Away!

Thanks to the wonderful people over at Wiredset I've been offered the chance to host a give away! For two winners! Yay!

I've done a review on Stephanie Laurens' books before but this is a chance for you to get- FOR FREE- her latest release The Untamed Bride. But you might be asking yourself, 'Why do I want the new Stephanie Laurens book?' Because she writes some of the best Regency England romances available today. A New York Times Bestselling Author, her books are always filled with great alpha males and incredibly strong women with just the right amount of banter to keep you engrossed in the story. To be completely upfront they are going send me a free copy to review, but keep in mind two things: 1) I was planning to read the book anyway, and 2) I've already reviewed Laurens' work before with very high marks so I'm not offering up anything I don't think is quality work.

Since this is a give away, and my first one at that, the rules are going to be pretty simple (and sorry in advance, but it's only open to US Residents):

1) You must be at least 16 years of age (because you're going to have to email me your physical address)
2) You must be a subscriber of my blog (click the Follow Blog button!)
3) Leave a comment on this post asking to be entered into the giv eaway

And that's it! Two winners will be chosen randomly from everyone who comments, please make sure to leave your email address so I can contact you if you win - GOOD LUCK! Contest closes November 12, 2009 11:59pm(my birthday!)

Dana

I'm BaaaaAAAaack!

Hey Everyone - I'm back! (random side note - why can I not write that without picturing the end of Independence Day? LOL)

After neglecting my inner blogger for quite a while, I'm revving up for a marathon session. Dragon*Con was incredible and while I might not have spent as much actual face to face time with authors this year, I don't regret a single minute of it! Unfortunately I'm stuck at work so I can't post a random assortment of pictures of the ins and outs of that weekend, but let's go through a few highlights, shall we?

Friday, Sept 4 - I think, even though I attended a hilarious panel held by Ensign Harry Kim (Garrett Wang), my favorite event on Friday was going to a live action performance of Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog! I hadn't seen it before going to Dragon*Con (shame) and even though I couldn't hear all the words, being surrounded by all these people who knew every word to every song? Greatness!

Runner up for Friday - I almost forgot to mention the Buffy panel I went to, with Charisma Carpenter and Julie Benz (Cordelia and Darla). A lot of fun, it gave great insight into the characters and the women that made up Joss Whedon's worlds.

Saturday, Sept 5 - Two words - PATRICK STEWART! That's right, Captain Jean-Luc Picard! I don't care how much of a Trekkie this makes me sound, I was center, maybe 5 rows back, from possibly my favorite Star Trek captain! (I say possibly, because I really like Kate Mulgrew - Captain Janeway - as well) Don't pretend you're not jealous!

Sunday, Sept 6 - Sherrilyn Kenyon signing! I got quite a few things signed by her last year actually, but I spent another 3.5 hours in line to get more! It was actually amazing that my friend and I were even able to get in line for this because you needed a wristband - not that they told anyone that. If we hadn't struck up a random conversation with the guy at Sherrilyn Kenyon's booth on Friday we would have had no idea! Well anyway, the universe was looking positively upon us and we were able to get in line.

Monday, Sept 7 - Monday was a slow last day, so I gotta say my favorite part of it was getting fitted for a corset. I know - weird right? But they were beautiful- Lace with steel boning. I didn't end up having enough money to get one that day, but I know my size and eventually one will be mine! If you want to check them out yourself, take a look at Scarlett's Corset.

Ok, to try and keep this post from being too epic I'm going to stop now. But there were other things I might bring up for discussion later - the future of Urban Fantasy, Goth in the Mainstream, Fetish panels - all sorts of adventures (sometimes concerning books, sometimes not) but were always interesting and informative. Plus - pictures!

Where I'll be and something to do while I'm gone!

Hi Readers! You're not going to see many (or any) updates from me in the next week or so because of two big things 1) I'm moving, and 2) I'm going to Dragon*Con! That's right, Dragon*Con- the mecca of all things slightly nerdy and ridiculous that have to do with Science/Fiction and Fantasy. I had the joy of going last year and stalking Laurell K. Hamilton and Tamora Pierce around the Con (and I also got to be in the same room as Kevin Sorbo which you know is cool!) thus I can't wait to go again this year! If you're interested in seeing just some of the pictures that I took, check out one of the Facebook albums I have to commemorate the weekend, here. Also, here's a list of just some of the guests who are attending this year that I hope to see:

Charisma Carpenter
Laura Anne Gilman
Charlaine Harris
Sherrilyn Kenyon
Traci Lords
James Marsters
Kate Mulgrew
Leonard Nimoy
Edward James Olmos
Kat Richardson
Michael Shanks
Kristy Swanson

But this combined with the move is going to make it really difficult to review any of the books that have just come out (though all the driving will definitely give me time to finish a few) so I thought I'd leave you with a poll - what would you want if I were to do a giveaway?

I bring this up just because it seems to be the season for giveaways. Left and right people are giving away makeup, sunless tanner kits, gift cards, everything! Unfortunately I don't have any special hidden backers to help me fund my venture so I thought I'd poll the people who do stop by and see what they think. There are going to be two ways to voice your opinion on this - comment on this post and/or vote in the poll to the side! I really want to hear what you guys think, though I'm hoping to stand strong and not actually hold the giveaway until I get up to 20 or 30 followers....we're going to see. I might be getting ahead of myself. Either way, thanks for stopping by and I hope you let me know what you'd like to see in your mail box!

Love and Luck,
Dana
